As a male citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany, you have to decide if you want to serve your public duty in the armed forces or in a civil organization.

In 1986 I joined the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW) as a voluntary helper. This is the governmental disaster relief organization of the Federal Republic of Germany
